Papillion’s Fall Cleanup Days, October 19 to 25
The City of Papillion runs Cleanup Days twice a year with the City of La Vista. The fall 2026 week is October 19 to 25, every day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, at 99th Circle and Portal Road on the south side of Portal Road, just east of the Papillion Public Works facility. The spring 2026 event ran April 13 to 19 at the same site.
What to know before you load the car:
- Eligibility. Papillion residents, Papillion water customers and La Vista residents. Bring a water bill or other identification.
- Mattresses and box springs are accepted, along with household furniture, major appliances and yard waste. Tires, railroad ties, oil, paint and chemicals are not.
- Residential items only. The city turns away commercial and business vehicles.
- Shredding is a separate stop. On Saturday, October 24, from 7 a.m. to noon, document shredding runs at the La Vista Public Works facility across the street, limited to ten file-size boxes per household.
Sarpy County supports the event with a reduced disposal fee, and it asks residents not to haul cleanup items directly to the Sarpy County Transfer Station.
Outside Cleanup week: Papillion’s haulers
Papillion has no city trash truck. Chapter 162 of the Papillion City Code requires each hauler to hold an annual city permit, and the city’s 2025 permit list names four residential haulers: Abe’s Trash Service, Gretna Sanitation, Papillion Sanitation and Waste Services of Nebraska. A mattress pickup outside Cleanup week is between you and whichever of them serves your house. Papillion Sanitation, for one, schedules bulk pickups for an added fee and wants mattresses wrapped in plastic.
Papillion housing by the numbers
Papillion’s median year built is 1991, plus or minus two years, in the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey, across 9,906 housing units. About 34% were built in the 1970s and 1980s, about 26% in 2000 or later, and about 15% before 1970. Roughly 78% are single-family detached houses, a higher share than in neighboring La Vista.
None of that tells us what’s on the mattress. By the numbers, though, a Papillion appointment is likely to be in a detached house rather than an apartment. The survey doesn’t ask about basements, so we can’t say how many Papillion bedrooms are below grade.
Pests and the Sarpy/Cass Health Department
Papillion is in the Sarpy/Cass Health Department’s area, and its Sarpy County office is in Papillion at 701 Olson Drive, Suite 101. The department takes indoor nuisance complaints within Sarpy and Cass counties through an online form, and staff follow up or point you to the right contact. If a Papillion bed has bed bugs, a licensed pest professional comes first; we clean after treatment, not instead of it. This is general information, not medical advice. Check your care label and warranty terms before booking; the areas page lists what stays the same at every address.
What we don’t know
- 2027 Cleanup Days dates. Papillion posts them on the Cleanup Days page.
- Hauler bulk prices. None of the four residential haulers’ fees are on the city’s list.
Papillion questions
Can I take a mattress to the Sarpy County Transfer Station during Cleanup Days?
No. Sarpy County says the cities set the dates and sites, and asks residents not to bring cleanup items straight to the transfer station. Use the Portal Road site.
I live in an SID with a Papillion address. Can I use Cleanup Days?
Papillion opens the event to Papillion residents, Papillion water customers and La Vista residents. Sarpy County's page says SID residents should ask their SID about similar events.
Does Papillion control who can haul my trash?
Yes. Chapter 162 of the city code requires haulers to hold an annual city permit. The city's 2025 permit list names Abe's, Gretna Sanitation, Papillion Sanitation and Waste Services of Nebraska for residential service.
