More than half of Gretna's homes were built in 2000 or later, and the city doesn't run trash service: it lists four private haulers, and its Clean Up Day, held May 2 in 2026 at 20090 Husker Drive, was open only to residents inside city limits; the notice doesn't list accepted items, so ask City Hall, 402-332-3336. Gretna is new housing

Gretna’s own New Residents Guide calls it a rapidly growing community with booming housing developments, on the west edge of Sarpy County off I-80. The Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey backs that up. Of Gretna’s 3,317 housing units, about 57% were built in 2000 or later, and the median year built is 2002, plus or minus two years. Only about 11% predate 1970. About 79% are single-family detached houses, the highest share on our area list.

A newly finished Gretna house hasn’t had decades of beds in it, yet the mattress may be the oldest thing in the bedroom, so we judge the bed and not the 2002 median. The survey doesn’t record basements, so we don’t know how many Gretna bedrooms are on a lower level.

Getting rid of a mattress in Gretna

The City of Gretna lists four trash haulers in its New Residents Guide: Abe’s Trash, Papillion Sanitation, Waste Management and Gretna Sanitation. Gretna has no city pickup, so your hauler’s rules decide what a mattress costs to remove.

  • Clean Up Day. Gretna Public Works hosted it on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at 20090 Husker Drive. You had to live within Gretna city limits. The notice doesn’t list accepted items or fees, so ask City Hall at 402-332-3336 before bringing a mattress. The 2027 date isn’t posted yet.
  • Gretna Sanitation customers. Its terms of service describe a bulk pickup route once a month, typically the last Friday, with a minimum fee of $75 and a quote you approve before the pickup is added. Gretna Sanitation doesn’t take appliances, and its “will not pick up” list includes bio-hazardous materials or waste, which matters for a badly soiled mattress.
  • Papillion Sanitation customers. Papillion Sanitation, which lists Gretna in its service area, schedules bulky pickups for an extra fee and requires mattresses and box springs to be wrapped in plastic.

If the mattress is sound and the problem is a stain or smell, price cleaning against a $75 minimum pickup plus a new bed. Sleep Sanitation’s list of problems professional cleaning can’t fix is a fair test before a Gretna household decides.

I live in an SID near Gretna. Can I go to Clean Up Day?

Gretna's 2026 notice said you had to live within city limits. Sarpy County's cleanup page tells SID residents to ask their SID about similar events.

Does Gretna run its own trash pickup?

No. The city's New Residents Guide lists four private haulers: Abe's Trash, Papillion Sanitation, Waste Management and Gretna Sanitation. Each hauler sets its own bulk pickup rules.
