Mattress cleaning in Bellevue, and Bellevue's rules for an old mattress

We clean mattresses in Bellevue. If a mattress has to go, Bellevue's contract with Papillion Sanitation sets the rules: the two free bulk pickups a year are for items up to 60 pounds and 4 feet by 2 feet, so a mattress needs a paid large item pickup or one of the city's two annual cleanup days.

Bellevue’s mattress rules, step by step

Bellevue is the one Sarpy County city on our list that contracts residential trash to a single hauler. The contract with Papillion Sanitation covers single-family and duplex homes inside the city limits, and the welcome packet spells out what happens to items that don’t fit in the blue landfill cart:

  1. Small extras go on a free bulk pickup. Each household gets two a year, for items up to 60 pounds and 4 feet by 2 feet, scheduled ahead with Papillion Sanitation.
  2. A mattress is an oversized item. The packet names couches and mattresses as items over those limits. Papillion Sanitation will schedule a large item curbside pickup year round, for a fee.
  3. Schedule it, or it stays. Items set out without a scheduled pickup aren’t collected.
  4. Or wait for a cleanup day. The city holds two annual cleanup days where oversized items can be dropped off with no extra fee. The spring 2026 date was May 9, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Street Department yards at 29th and Hancock and at 8252 Cedar Island Road.

Papillion Sanitation’s general residential page adds one more condition for every bulk pickup: mattresses and box springs must be wrapped in plastic.

Other Bellevue drop-offs, for orientation

Bellevue’s free tree dump, just north of 8902 Cedar Island Road, opens the last Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon, for tree debris only. Glass recycling goes to the District 3 Fire Station lot at 9400 S 36th Street. Neither takes a mattress, but both help you place the Cedar Island Road cleanup site.

Bellevue housing by the numbers

Bellevue has 26,560 housing units in the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey, with a median year built of 1982, plus or minus two years. About 28% were built before 1970, the second-highest share on our area list after Ralston, and about 25% in 2000 or later. Roughly 68% are single-family detached houses.

A 1960s ranch and a 2015 build get the same cleaning; the mattress, not the house, sets the method. What older Bellevue housing can change is the bedroom itself. If yours is in a lower level, read our Omaha basement humidity guide before scheduling summer work. The survey doesn’t count basements, so we can’t say how common they are in Bellevue.

Pests, odor and the county

Bellevue residents bring indoor nuisance complaints to the Sarpy/Cass Health Department, which handles them within Sarpy and Cass counties. Suspected bed bugs go to a licensed pest professional first; our cleaning follows treatment. For a pet accident on a Bellevue mattress, Sleep Sanitation’s urine, pet accident and odor guide explains when cleaning helps. This page is general information, not medical advice. Check your care label and warranty terms before booking; the areas page lists what stays the same at every address.

What we don’t know

  • Bellevue’s fall 2026 cleanup date. The packet promises two cleanup days a year; we found only the May 9 date on the county’s page.
  • The large item pickup fee. Neither the city nor Papillion Sanitation posts it.

Bellevue questions

Does a mattress count as one of Bellevue's two free bulk pickups?

No. The free pickups cover items up to 60 pounds and 4 feet by 2 feet. The city's welcome packet names mattresses and couches as oversized items, picked up for a fee.

Can I leave a mattress next to the cart on trash day?

No. Bellevue's packet says all trash must fit in the cart and that unscheduled items won't be picked up. Call Papillion Sanitation first.

Does the city contract cover apartment buildings?

Bellevue's page says the contract covers single-family and duplex homes inside the city limits. In a larger building, ask the building's management who hauls bulky items.
