Mattress cleaning in La Vista, and what to do with the one you're replacing

We clean mattresses in La Vista. If you're replacing one, know that La Vista doesn't collect trash itself: the city points residents to private haulers. The free route is the Fall Cleanup Days La Vista shares with Papillion, October 19 to 25, 2026, at 99th Circle and Portal Road, where La Vista residents can drop off a mattress and box spring.

La Vista doesn’t run a trash truck

La Vista’s Trash Pickup page is short and plain: “In La Vista, trash pickup is handled by non-city resources.” It lists four haulers with addresses and phone numbers: Abe’s Trash on Christensen Lane in Omaha, Waste Services of Nebraska on Cary Circle in La Vista, Papillion Sanitation on S 144th Street, and Waste Management on N 216th Street in Bennington. Which one comes to your La Vista curb is a private contract, so a mattress pickup is a question for that company, not La Vista City Hall.

Each La Vista hauler sets its own bulk terms. Papillion Sanitation’s residential page, for example, says a bulky pickup has to be scheduled, costs extra and needs mattresses and box springs wrapped in plastic.

The free option La Vista shares with Papillion

Twice a year La Vista residents can use the Cleanup Days the two cities run together at 99th Circle and Portal Road. The fall 2026 dates are October 19 to 25, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Mattresses and box springs are accepted at the Portal Road site; tires, paint and chemicals are not. On Saturday, October 24, the La Vista Public Works facility, across the street from the Papillion Public Works facility, hosts a morning shredding stop until noon or until the truck fills.

La Vista housing by the numbers

La Vista’s 6,958 housing units have a median year built of 1993, plus or minus three years, in the Census Bureau’s 2020 to 2024 survey. About 40% went up in 2000 or later and about 16% before 1970. The figure that sets La Vista apart from its neighbors is building type: about 55% of units are single-family detached houses, compared with about 78% in Papillion and 79% in Gretna.

With about 45% of units outside the single-family detached category, a bulk pickup for a La Vista mattress can mean carrying it down from an upper floor rather than rolling it to a curb. For a used bed bought for a La Vista apartment, Sleep Sanitation’s guide to whether a used mattress can be sanitized covers that choice.

La Vista and the Sarpy/Cass Health Department

La Vista falls under the Sarpy/Cass Health Department, which takes indoor nuisance complaints within Sarpy and Cass counties through an online form or by phone at 402-339-4334. The department’s page covers indoor nuisances; for bed bugs, we don’t treat them, and we clean only after a licensed pest professional has. This page is general information, not medical advice. Check your care label and warranty terms before booking; the areas page lists what stays the same at every address.

What we don’t know

  • Which hauler serves your building. La Vista doesn’t assign one, and apartment buildings may contract separately.
  • Hauler bulk fees. The city’s page lists contacts, not prices.

La Vista questions

Does the City of La Vista pick up mattresses?

No. La Vista's Trash Pickup page says trash pickup is handled by non-city resources. Ask your hauler about a bulky pickup or use the Cleanup Days.

Do La Vista residents need a Papillion water bill for Cleanup Days?

No. The event is open to La Vista residents as well as Papillion residents and water customers. Bring identification that shows a La Vista address.

Which trash haulers does La Vista list?

Abe's, Waste Services of Nebraska, Papillion Sanitation and Waste Management, whose listed office is at 13505 N 216th St in Bennington. City Hall is at 402-331-4343.
