Compare your options in OmahaDry vapor steam vs wet extraction mattress cleaning in Omaha
For a mattress in an Omaha home, dry vapor steam is the low-moisture option: it carries heat into seams, tufts and edges with very little liquid water. Wet (hot-water) extraction, the method built for carpet, sprays a cleaning solution into the fabric and vacuums it back out. Omaha Mattress Cleaning, operated by Sleep Sanitation, uses dry vapor steam, HEPA vacuuming and UV-C light treatment, at $249 for the first mattress, any size. Call or text (402) 512-5658.
- What we use
- Vapor Clean dry vapor steam, rated by its maker at 5 to 6% moisture content, followed by HEPA vacuuming and UV-C light treatment.
- After the visit
- The bed stays unmade until it is dry to the touch, and we run a moisture check before we leave.
- Omaha humidity
- Eppley Airfield's average July dew point is near 66°F (NOAA 1991–2020 normals), so summer bedrooms, especially basements, hold moisture longer. (our Omaha humidity guide)
- Warranty note
- Wet-extraction carpet cleaning can void some mattress warranties. Read your care label and warranty terms before any cleaning, ours included.
Key points, checked October 5, 2026
| Wet (hot-water) extraction | Dry vapor steam (our method) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Sprays a heated cleaning solution into the fabric, then vacuums it back out | Applies superheated, low-moisture vapor in slow passes |
| Water left in the mattress | Some solution stays in the fabric and padding | Very little; the maker rates our machines at 5 to 6% moisture content |
| Built for | Carpet, rugs and upholstery | Mattresses and other sleep surfaces |
| Seams, tufts and edges | Depends on the operator | Worked on every mattress, where dust and shed skin flakes collect |
| Follow-up steps | Varies by provider | HEPA vacuuming, UV-C light treatment, moisture check, built-in bed mite sensor |
| When it's the right call | A soaked or flooded item that needs volume flushed out | Routine mattress care, foam, latex and hybrid builds |
What is the difference between dry vapor steam and wet extraction?
Water is the carrier in wet extraction. A heated solution is sprayed into the fabric and vacuumed back out with what it loosened. That works well on carpet, where the fibers and pad can take it. A mattress is foam, latex or fiber batting under a quilted cover, and some of that water stays in.
Dry vapor steam uses heat as the tool. The vapor is superheated at the nozzle and carries very little liquid water, so it reaches the quilting, seams and tufts without soaking the comfort layers. We follow it with HEPA vacuuming and UV-C light treatment on every visit.
Why does moisture matter more in an Omaha bedroom?
Omaha’s air is most humid in July and August. NOAA’s normals put Eppley Airfield’s average July dew point near 66°F, against 16°F in January. A basement guest room or a closed-up bedroom in summer gives water in a mattress less chance to leave. Our humidity and basement bedrooms guide has the numbers, and the Missouri river-bottom humidity guide covers east Omaha and Council Bluffs.
When is wet extraction the right call?
When something has soaked an item and the volume needs flushing out, extraction has a place. A flooded or long-saturated mattress is often past cleaning anyway, and we will tell you if replacing it makes more sense. For routine care, pet odor and ordinary urine accidents, our default is dry vapor steam with enzyme treatment for urine.
What should you ask any Omaha provider?
- What equipment touches the mattress, and is it the same machine used on the floors?
- How much water goes in, and how do you confirm the mattress is dry to the touch before the bed is made?
- Do you work the seams, tufts and edges, or only the top panel?
- What is included in the price, and what costs extra?
Where is the science?
Heat, moisture and bed mites aren’t specific to Omaha, so the detail lives in the Sleep Sanitation Knowledge Center. For the specialist-versus-carpet-company question, read mattress specialist or carpet cleaner in Omaha. To book, see book or contact us.
What does it cost in Omaha?
The first mattress is $249, any size, with normal stains, pet odor and ordinary urine accidents included. Each additional full, queen or king in the same visit is $199, each additional kids' bed (twin or full) is $149, and underside treatment is +$50–$75 per mattress. Severe or biohazard cases carry a surcharge we quote before starting.
Every visit includes UV-C light treatment, HEPA vacuuming and two checks: a moisture check after service and the built-in bed mite sensor on our UV-C vacuum. The 72-hour bedroom CO₂ test is a separate optional service, priced by quote, and it isn't a medical test. See Omaha pricing for every rate.
Questions Omaha readers ask
Is dry vapor steam the same as steam cleaning a carpet?
No. Most carpet 'steam cleaning' is hot-water extraction: solution goes in and is vacuumed back out. Dry vapor steam is superheated vapor with very little liquid water, which is why we use it on mattresses.
Will dry vapor steam get my mattress wet?
Only slightly at the surface. The bed stays unmade until it is dry to the touch, and we run a moisture check after service before we leave. In an Omaha summer, keep the air conditioning or a dehumidifier running in the room rather than opening the windows.
Which method is better for memory foam, latex or hybrid mattresses?
Low-moisture dry vapor steam, because dense foam and latex are slow to release water. We inspect the materials first and set the steam and pass speed for that mattress. Your care label and warranty terms come first.
Does dry vapor steam kill bed mites?
Steam heat kills bed mites (house dust mites) in published tests: Glass and Needham (2004) reported 100 percent mortality of D. farinae after a 96°C steam cleaner on carpet and mattress samples. Those were study conditions, not your bedroom, so we HEPA vacuum afterward to lift dead mites and debris. We make no allergy or asthma claim.
How much does dry vapor mattress cleaning cost in Omaha?
$249 for the first mattress, any size, with normal stains, pet odor and ordinary urine accidents included. Each additional full, queen or king in the same visit is $199, and each additional kids' bed is $149.
Is the 72-hour bedroom CO₂ test part of a dry vapor visit?
No. It is a separate optional service, booked on its own or added to a visit, priced by quote. It isn't a medical test.
