Omaha life eventsResetting the guest-room mattress before Omaha holiday guests
Book the guest-room mattress for the week before family arrives, not the morning they land. In 2026 Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26, and Omaha's Holiday Lights Festival lighting ceremony is Saturday, November 28, so mid-November weekday slots go first. A spare bed that sat unused since last winter still collects dust and shed skin flakes. The first mattress is $249, any size. Call or text (402) 512-5658.

When should you book the guest bed before the holidays?
Work back from the first arrival. If Thanksgiving guests land on Wednesday, November 25, 2026, the bed needs to be done before that week starts. The Holiday Lights Festival lighting ceremony downtown on Saturday, November 28 gives visiting family a reason to stay through the weekend, and the New Year’s Eve fireworks on Thursday, December 31 can bring a second round of guests. A weekday visit in the first half of November covers both.
If you are hosting for Christmas only, the week of December 14 leaves time to make the bed and air the room. Christmas Day is a Friday in 2026, so the last full weekday week before it is December 14 to 18.
What is different about a guest bed nobody slept on?
Less wear, not less dust. A spare room still gets household dust, and the last guest left their shed skin flakes behind. We treat it like any other bed: a material inspection, low-moisture dry vapor steam on the surface, seams and tufts, HEPA vacuuming and UV-C light treatment. Every visit includes a moisture check after service and the built-in bed mite sensor on our UV-C vacuum. Why those steps matter is covered in the Sleep Sanitation Knowledge Center.
What changes in an Omaha winter?
Mostly the calendar. Omaha’s outdoor air in January averages a 16°F dew point at Eppley Airfield, so a winter guest room isn’t battling the summer humidity we write about in summer humidity and basement bedrooms. The rule stays the same in any season: the bed stays unmade until it is dry to the touch, and we confirm with a moisture check.
The other winter factor is trash day. If you are replacing the guest mattress instead, the city’s contractor skips collection on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day and runs a day late for the rest of that week. Mattresses don’t go in the cart anyway; see getting rid of a mattress in Omaha.
Are you hosting paying guests instead of family?
That is a different schedule, with lodging taxes and turnover windows. Our Airbnb and short-term rental hosts hub covers College World Series and other event weekends.
What does it cost in Omaha?
The first mattress is $249, any size, with normal stains, pet odor and ordinary urine accidents included. Each additional full, queen or king in the same visit is $199, each additional kids' bed (twin or full) is $149, and underside treatment is +$50–$75 per mattress. Severe or biohazard cases carry a surcharge we quote before starting.
Every visit includes UV-C light treatment, HEPA vacuuming and two checks: a moisture check after service and the built-in bed mite sensor on our UV-C vacuum. The 72-hour bedroom CO₂ test is a separate optional service, priced by quote, and it isn't a medical test. See Omaha pricing for every rate.
Questions Omaha households ask
How far ahead should I book before Thanksgiving in Omaha?
Two to three weeks. In 2026 Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, and the weekdays just before it fill first. Our hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, so plan on a weekday visit rather than the Saturday before guests arrive.
Can you clean the guest bed the day before guests arrive?
If that is the only slot, yes, but give yourself room. The bed stays unmade until it is dry to the touch, and we run a moisture check after service before you put sheets back on.
The guest mattress is past saving. Can I put it out with the trash?
Not in Omaha's curbside carts. The Omaha Recycling Guide points to drop-off at River City Recycling or Pheasant Point, or a Cleanup Saturday. Holiday weeks also shift city collection by a day, so plan the swap early. Our Omaha mattress disposal guide has the details.
My guest room is in the basement. Does that change anything?
In winter, less than in summer. Omaha's January dew point averages 16°F, so a basement room isn't fighting outdoor humidity the way it does in July. If the bed smells musty, tell us when you book; we inspect before we treat. See summer humidity and basement bedrooms.
What does a holiday guest-room visit cost?
$249 for the first mattress, any size. Each additional full, queen or king in the same visit is $199, each additional kids' bed (twin or full) is $149, and underside treatment adds $50–$75 per mattress. See Omaha pricing.
